This weeks’ success story is of a 46 year old male attorney named Andrew Cassidy. Andrew joined the MaxOut family on February 7th of this year and acted as a guinea pig for MaxOut since he was one of the very first to sign on.

With every workout Andrew came and gave 110% without fail. He is a very intense, athletic individual and is always looking for a challenge. Because of this, Andrew grew leaps and bounds with just 18 total workouts!!

Andrew went on a trip this summer, so here are some of Andrew’s stats before he left.

Just 4 months of training with MaxOut:

Squat:
Starting Weight – 225 lbs
After 4 months – 395 lbs
Increase amount: 170 lbs

Bench Press:
Starting Weight – 185 lbs
After 4 months – 230 lbs
Increase amount: 45 lbs

Leg Extension:
Starting Weight – 276 lbs
After 4 months – 357 lbs
Increase amount: 81 lbs

Lap Pull Down:
Starting Weight – 290 lbs
After 4 months – 430 lbs
Increase amount: 140 lbs

These weight increases are truly fantastic and we are so impressed with Andrew’s commitment to success! We are very proud and happy to have Andrew with us as a long term member and would like to thank him for his patience, dedication, and loyalty to MaxOut. We look forward to continuing to help him meet his goals and carry on in growth with MaxOut.

BRING IT!!!

Our most recent success story is of someone who is very close to one of our very own, Dave Shafer. Judy Shafer, Dave’s mother, is in her mid 60s and has really shown amazing physical improvement over the past 5 months.

Judy was our very first senior client and has excelled greatly during her time here. In the beginning, she was a little intimidated because of her age and lack of experience but has really proven to herself that she can do anything she sets her mind to – as long as she tries!
Accompanying Judy at every work out is her husband, Barry. To have a support system is always helpful and these two definitely bring the best out of each other. During every work out experience at MAXOUT Studio, the couple pushes each other to reach goals they never expected.

Here are some of Judy’s stats after just 5 months. They are amazing:

Leg Press:
Starting Weight – 102 lbs
After 5 months – 172 lbs

Bench Press (which is very tricky for women):
Starting Weight – 45 lbs
After 5 months – 80 lbs – that is the bar, plus 35 lbs!

Leg Extension:
Starting Weight – 84 lbs
After 5 months – 168 lbs

Triceps Press Down:
Starting Weight – 60 lbs
After 5 months – 113 lbs

Seated Row:
Starting Weight – 68 lbs
After 5 months – 175 lbs

Those aren’t even all of the improvements done by Judy. The traditional senior workout includes only 5 different workouts. Although there are only 5 listed above, she is actually doing 8, which is above and beyond what most women her age do!! Way to go!!

Judy and her husband, Barry, only joined MAXOUT Studio to support their son, Dave. Little did they know that they would be changing their lives forever by so strongly improving their physical fitness. Kudos to you Judy at a wonderful job! We are so proud of you!!!

What have you done for your friends lately? Mariah Traywick told her high school basketball team member, Meagan Yates about MaxOut Strength Studio in Limerick, PA. – Luckily for Meagan this could be one of the best things that has happened to her this year!
Meagan is a 17 year old, female, high school basketball & soccer player. Meagan is on an All State athlete level; intense, determined, dedicated, naturally gifted, and a leader to her teammates. Meagan is approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs about 120 lbs.
When Meagan first arrived at MaxOut, she had that determined look in her eye – the one that told us she wanted to be here and she didn’t care what it would take. Meagan’s initial strength assessment was off the charts for not only a teenage girl of her stature, but for most boys her age too! Meagan started so high with her weights that she quickly RAN OUT OF WEIGHT on many of the machines – especially when it came to her lower body exercises.

Here are some of her stats: – they will amaze you!

Squats – (which Meagan had never done before):
Starting Weight: – 115 lbs
After 16 workouts – 255 lbs

Leg Curl – Meagan’s starting weight is higher than what many men can max out at
Starting Weight: – 168 lbs
After 16 workouts – 228 lbs – by the way, that is 2 plates shy of the entire rack of weights!

Leg Press
Starting Weight – 230 lbs
After 16 workouts – 340 lbs

Overall, Meagan’s entire body strength has improved immensely. Her parents, team mates, and coaches can see improvements both on and off the soccer field & basketball court. Meagan is much more physical in her play and shows dominance in both of her sports.

Meagan now has an internship with us as at MaxOut Strength Studio as a part time assistant strength coach. Meagan is an excellent leader and will make an excellent strength coach at MaxOut Strength Studio. Welcome to the family Meagan. BRING IT!

Mariah Traywick is a 15 year old female high school basketball player in Southeast PA. Mariah is a naturally gifted athlete who had never lifted weights in her life. Mariah has never had to physically train hard to excel in her sport. However Mariah, her parents, & coaches decided that is was time to train for college programs and travel teams—and hence increase her ability to compete at higher levels.

Mariah heard about MaxOut Studio from her athletic director. She started her first workout mentally weak when it came to pushing her body. In general, her mental weakness (not sounding cruel here!) was impeding her physical abilities.

At workout 6, Mariah had a breakthrough and surpassed her mental and subsequent physical roadblock. Mariah’s new mental approach was to want each rep instead of fearing each rep. Because of MaxOut, Mariah has seen a difference in her physicality, mental aggressiveness as well as performance in her sport.

Take a look at some of her strength accomplishments:
Beginning Leg Curl -84 lbs
After 13 WorkOuts -156 lbs

Beginning Leg Press – 170 lbs
After 13 WorkOuts – 289 lbs

Beginning Squat – 115 lbs
After 13 WorkOuts – 205 lbs…that’s an increase of almost 100%!

Beginning Bench Press – 65 lbs
After 13 WorkOuts – 120 lbs…again…awesome increase!

Mariah is a great addition to the MaxOut Family, and we are all very proud of her improvements and accomplishments. A simple yet powerful example of how MaxOut can change a person. It’s Once-Per-Week for Mariah—and look at the gains! BRING IT!

LIMERICK — Whether you’ve fallen off the fitness wagon or are an exercise buff looking for the best new thing, the people at MaxOut Strength Studio say things will shape up for you within four hours of working out with them.

Guaranteed.

“The business’ greatest challenge is being able to explain or justify some of our extraordinarily unique and boastful claims, which is guaranteed strength gains by only working out once a week,” said co-owner and operator David Shafer. “We are quite different than anything else in the world as far as strength development goes.”

Shafer and partners Jason Griggs and Matt Cubbler opened MaxOut in the Limerick Square Shopping Center, Buckwalter Road, in February. Their claim to fame is guaranteeing a noticeable change in strength and body appearance in just four one-hour sessions of strength training at MaxOut.

“We shatter the notion that in order to get results … you have to spend hours in the weight room,” said Shafer, an entrepreneur. But that one-hour workout, according to Shafer, wasn’t the intended goal when the business got off the ground.

“You don’t do a lot of reps on our machines, but you get to a point of muscle failure, and you’re body needs between five to seven days to recuperate to be able to handle that again,” Shafer explained. “We’re not coming to market trying to wedge in, ‘Hey, you know what would be kind of neat? Let’s offer a once-a-week workout.’ That was just a convenient byproduct … You would do your body harm if you tried to do this more than once a week.”

What stands behind MaxOut is science, Shafer, Cubbler and Griggs concurred.

“This equipment (used by clients at MaxOut) was designed scientifically,” Shafer said. “This story isn’t about a big musclehead, this came out from a guy wearing a white lab jacket.”

“This was invented 20 years ago at the University of Florida,” Cubbler said of the science behind MaxOut.

Specifically, Dr. Michael MacMillian, an orthopedic surgeon among other things, worked on the methodology behind MaxOut’s technology. The exercises a client completes are a combination of eccentric and concentric exercises, Cubbler said.

“MAXOUT BABY!” – That’s what John Grover shouts through the front door of our studio everyday during his bus route stop in front of our Limerick location. John is a 27 year old male who works as a public transportation bus driver. John was overweight and recently had gastric bypass surgery. John’s bus route lands him in front our our Limerick location on a regular basis and one day he stopped in to grab a flyer and learn more. One month later John returned to do a free workout, and he was hooked.

Going into his 3rd week of training at MaxOut, John had Matt Cubbler fill in as his trainer. When Matt & John met, Matt noticed that John was a mentally & physically beaten person. Because of John’s previous weight issue, Matt could tell that John was not mentally into the workouts and that no matter what, John would always feel like the fat kid in the corner. John began to quit during exercises and just couldn’t handle it.

Matt came to a 1 sided agreement with John; John was not to get off the machine until Matt told him to. After they got through their first exercise, John teared up and told Matt “No one has ever taken me to that place.” – Now, with confidence, each week John has less barriers to go through. Today, John is a machine. John is doing extra reps to show that he doesn’t want to quit. John is giving 150% effort.

Here are some of John’s body improvements & strength Numbers:

Body Improvements:

1st Body Composition: March 30th
213lbs. ; BMI – 29.8% ; Body Fat – 30.8%

Body Composition : May 12
205 lbs ; BMI – 28.7% ; Body Fat – 25.6%

Strength Numbers – for 10 workouts

Squat – March 16 – 135 lbs.
Squat – May 26 – 265 lbs.

Seated Row – March 16 – 221 lbs
Seated Row – May 26 – 306 lbs.

Leg Press – March 16 – 204 lbs.
Leg Press – May 26 – 357 lbs.

John Grover epitomizes the mentality and effort that we expect and want from every client that comes to MaxOut. Welcome to the family John. Bring It!

I have heard that people can cry tears of joy. I have always been a bit skeptical of this until Jill Justice was standing in front of me at her recent body composition test. We were taking her measurements after 8 weeks of working out with us at MaxOut Strength Studios. 8 weeks ago, Jill, a 44 year old female who works in the optometrist field, was out of shape and had not exercised in years. She needed direction & guidance….and that’s what she got.

After a month’s worth of hesitation, Jill decided to come and give MaxOut Strength Studio’s a try. She explained to me that she likes to be pushed and needed a male trainer that had a “tough love” attitude. Immediately we knew she would be a great match with one of our Strength coaches – Shan. Her first couple of weeks with us Jill was quiet and reserved. Very slowly, she began to express herself and started to interact with other strength coaches as well as other MaxOut clients. Now, Jill fits into the MaxOut family just perfectly and she is one of biggest vocal champions.

Let’s not forget about why Jill was crying at her last Body Composition test.

In the past 4 weeks, Jill has lost 6 pounds.

She has lost 2.5 pounds of body fat.

Jill has lost 5 inches total off of her body

She lost 1 full percentage off of her BMI (body mass index)

Some more stats for Jill to be proud of:

Starting Squat Weight 105 lbs. – After 8 MaxOut workouts 205 lbs

Starting Leg Press Weight 255 lbs – After 8 MaxOut workouts 340 lbs

Starting Leg Extension Weight 156 lbs – After 8 MaxOut workouts 228 lbs

Jill knew that she was feeling great and now she finally admitted (even though we had all been telling her) that she looked great as well. Jill even confessed “I guess it means it is true, I am changing. My belt has gotten tighter by 5 notches.”

Jill works out with us once a week. She has made a lifestyle change by staying more active during the week and watching her diet. Each week Jill shows drastic strength improvements that are correlated with her increase in weight loss.

Jill, we are glad you are a part of the MaxOut family. BRING IT.

What would you do if you were once a 4 time state power lifting champ and you injured your back so severely that partial paralysis was the result in your right leg? What would you do when you rehabilitate your back injury for hours every week to get to a point where you can function on a daily basis – but you are told you will never be able to lift weights or compete ever again? Well, for Mike Shirey – he came to MaxOut Strength Studios!

Mike is a 45 year old (almost 46!) police officer from Pennsylvania who has not lifted competitively in over 5 years due to that horrible back injury. After months of rehab, the paralysis that first haunted him was now gone – but in its place was muscle atrophy that would not seem to get any better. For years, Mike tried to strengthen the right gluteus and hamstring muscles, but no matter what he tried the atrophy persisted.

At the end of January, 2010 Mike found out about MaxOut Strength Studio in Limerick, PA and stopped in to see what made them different than every other “gym” he ever trained at. The first thing he realized was that this was NOT A GYM! He tried a couple of the pieces of equipment and immediately realized that this was unlike anything he had ever done in his competitive lifting career. He was immediately hooked and made a deal with one of the owners, Matt Cubbler, who happened to be his partner at the police department. He said “If you train me – I will try to see if MaxOut can make me healthy again.” Matt took that one step farther and said “I want to get you back on the platform competing again!” Mike knew that the PA State Power Lifting Championships were on March 21rd, 2010 in State College, PA. Even though he was not competing anymore – he still followed the results of his former comrades. Mike thought about it for a moment and took it up a notch himself. He said to Matt – “if your equipment and methodology does what you say it will and it works for me – I will compete in this year’s event.” Matt accepted the challenge.

Mike began training the first week of February. After five intense (puke induced at times) full body MaxOut for Athlete Circuits – One hour/Once a Week – Mike felt like he was on his way to reaching his goal of competing once again. An illness set Mike back three weeks towards the end of his training and brought doubt into his mind about whether or not he would be physically ready to compete. On 3/13/10, Mike returned to MaxOut to see if he had enough strength to lift what he deemed to be a minimum respectable weight at the meet. He squatted 500lbs twice, Bench Pressed 315lbs and Dead lifted 500 lbs twice. Mike looked over at Matt and said – “You are coming with me to Penn State right?” Matt would not have missed this for the world.

On 3/21/10, Mike arrived at Penn State and was welcomed by all the competitors with the respect he had earned throughout his career. He entered the 242lb weight class, but only weighed in at 224lbs – the lightest in the field. He opened the meet with the Squat. He not only finished with the best squat in his weight class (628lbs), but acknowledged that it was actually TOO EASY and should have tried a heavier weight! The next event was the Bench Press – admittedly, Mike’s weakest event. He posted a respectable 341lb lift. The final event is the Dead Lift. Mike, in his prime, was the most feared in this event. He once lifted nearly 700lbs in a meet. This time, Mike had a chance to either reach a personal goal of a combined total weight of 1600lbs or attempt to lift 661lbs to win the whole damn thing! He had just easily lifted 573lbs and only needed to lift 631lbs to reach the goal of 1600lbs – his success in getting that weight was never in question. But, Mike is a competitor and new that if he had settled for less that the win, he would have regretted not going for it. So, he walked up to the platform and valiantly tried to successfully pull that 661lbs beast off the ground. As it turned out, Mike needed a few more training sessions at MaxOut – he was not able to complete the lift. But, he accomplished so many things at this event, not the least of which was the fact that he proved all the doctors and critics wrong and once again dominated in the sport that he loves. Mike Shirey is not only physically strong, but he has the spirit of a warrior and the heart of a lion. MaxOut was proud to be a part of such an amazing comeback story.
